My name is Dominik Herkommer, Mechanical Engineer.

I am a PhD student at the Stokes Institute of the University of Limerick, Ireland. I got a blog, to keep you up to date on what is happening there.

I was raised in Schriesheim, a small town near Heidelberg, Germany.

I acquired my Masters Degree at the University of Applied Sciences Mannheim in September 2006. During my studies I spent one year abroad at the University of Maryland. This included one practical semester and my Masters Thesis at the CALCE laboratories under supervision of Dr. Dasgupta. My research focus was the investigation of material properties for new lead-free solder materials. This research is necessary, because the old lead-based solder materials have been banned in many countries.

I wrote my diploma thesis at the Virtual Reality Center of the University of Applied Sciences Mannheim under supervision of Professor Burbaum. Topic was the invention of a device that uses the power of seawaves to transform seawater into potable water using reverse osmosis.

I spent the first practical semester at Freudenberg Anlagen- und Werkzeugtechnik KG in Weinheim. There I learned the basics of manufacturing, such as milling, lathing, welding and of course a lot of filing.

Before I started to study I acqired my High School Diploma at the Kurpfalz Gymnasium Schriesheim.

In my sparetime I enjoy playing guitar, reading, travelling and jogging.
